The presidential nominating contests begin Monday with the Republican caucuses in Iowa, followed by the New Hampshire primary next week. Then, primaries and caucuses will continue through the rest of the country. The Democratic caucuses in Iowa have taken a different approach this year to comply with guidelines put in place by the Democratic National Committee. Democratic caucuses will still meet Monday night to conduct party business, but there will be a mail-in presidential preference vote, with results expected on March 5. Nevada will follow, holding their Democratic primary on Feb. 6 and Republican caucuses on Feb. 8. Then, South Carolina Republicans will hold their primary on Feb. 24. Michigan will be the final state to hold a primary before Super Tuesday, on Feb. 27. Republican caucuses will be held in Idaho, Missouri and North Dakota at the beginning of March. This year, Super Tuesday will fall on March 5. Voters in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia will vote, and the results of the Iowa Democratic caucuses will be announced. The other states will follow, and various territories will hold primary elections as well. Some states and territories have not yet announced election dates. These primaries and caucuses will award delegates to each candidate to be nominated for president. In the Republican Party, a candidate needs 1,215 of the 2,429 available delegates to be nominated. For the Democrats, a candidate needs 1,969 of 3,936 delegates. The Republican National Convention will be held from July 15 to July 18, and the Democratic National Convention will be held from Aug. 19 to Aug. 22. The general election will be held on Nov. 5, 2024.
