NYC public school calendar: Here are key dates for 2024-2025 academic year
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The end of the current school year in New York City is just a few months away, but it’s never too early to start planning ahead and take a look at the key dates for the public school 2024-2025 calendar.
The city Department of Education (DOE) academic calendar includes some two-dozen days off between the first day of school on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, and the last day of classes on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
The calendar gives time off for the religious holidays like Good Friday, Yom Kippur and Eid al-Fitr, and week-long breaks for winter recess, mid-winter recess and spring recess, which include Christmas and Passover. Diwali has also been added as a public school holiday.
The school calendar also allows time off for Italian Heritage Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day (Columbus Day), Election Day, Thanksgiving, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day and Juneteenth.
Dates for parent-teacher conference days for elementary, middle schools and high schools are also posted in the calendar.
