Andhra Pradesh assembly election 2024: Date, time, scheduleNEW DELHI: The Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh would be held on May13, the Election Commission of India announced on Saturday.The Gazette notification will be issued on March 20, 2024 with nominations ending on April 25, 2024. The counting of votes would be done on June 4, 2024.In the last assembly elections, the YSRCP secured victory with 151 seats, leaving the TDP with only 22 seats.In this southern state, a majority of 88 seats is required for a party to form a government.Just hours before the official announcement by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the ruling party, YSRCP, unveiled its list of candidates for both Lok Sabha and state assembly polls. The list includes 25 candidates for Lok Sabha seats and 175 candidates for Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh.Meanwhile, the TDP has released two lists featuring the candidates it is nominating for the state polls. The TDP, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Jana Sena Party (JSP) have finalized a seat-sharing arrangement in Andhra Pradesh for the upcoming elections. Under this agreement, the BJP will field candidates in six parliamentary seats, while the TDP and JSP will contest in 17 and two seats respectively. In the assembly elections, the BJP will compete in 10 seats, the TDP in 144 seats, and the JSP in 21 seats.Ahead of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections, the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) has appointed coordinators for two assembly constituencies: Chilakaluripet and Gajuwaka.
