Classic Movie Night at The Virginia: Auntie Mame

Auntie Mame will be shown at The Virginia Theater, 214 E. Mt. Vernon St., Somerset, at 7 p.m. Join emcee and local film enthusiast John Alexander for Classic Movie Night at The Virginia, featuring Auntie Mame, a 1958 comedy film starring Rosalind Russell. In the film, Mame Dennis (Russell), a progressive and independent woman of the 1920s, is left to care for her nephew Patrick (Jan Handzlik/Roger Smith) after his wealthy father dies.

Salute to Valor at the Center

Salute to Valor will be at The Center for Rural Development, 2292 S. Hwy 27, Somerset, KY, starting at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature a Semi-Formal Dinner, Silent Auction, Guest Speakers plus Music and Dancing. PFLAG Somerset Inc. will hold its monthly support meeting for the LGBTQIA+ community, their parents, family and allies at A New Beginning Achievement Center, 600 Bogle Street, Somerset, on Thursday, May 23 from 5:30-7:30pm. Park and use the back, lower-level entrance. You do not need to be a member of PFLAG Somerset to attend or participate.



Burnside’s “Summer Kickoff Concert”

Burnside’s “Summer Kickoff Concert” will be at Cole Park, 7929 S. Hwy 27, Burnside, KY. Gates open at 4 p.m. This lively event marks the beginning of summer with fantastic music and a vibrant atmosphere. Spittin’ Image will take the stage at 6 p.m. with the Bent Penny Band performing at 8 p.m.



Pulaski County Community Health, Wellness & Resource Fair

Pulaski County Community Health, Wellness & Resource Fair will be at TheCenter for Rural Development, 2292 S. Hwy 27, Somerset, KY, time from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Local health and wellness organizations and community resources will be available for all ages with free health screenings.

Grief Support Group

GriefShare offers help and encouragement after the death of a spouse, child, family member or friend. Takes place every Tuesday from March 5 through June 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET at First Christian Church (1115 Ky. 39, Somerset). Cost is $20. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Volunteers

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation program, provides counseling for senior citizens and low- to moderate-income persons as they complete their tax forms. The organization is looking for volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Volunteers can serve in a variety of roles. In addition to tax preparation assistance, we need client facilitators, technology specialists, managers and interpreters. Volunteers do not have to be AARP members or have prior tax experience. Come by the Pulaski County Extension Office and pick up a pattern if you would be willing to make baby hats. Several ladies are still making these hats monthly but they could use your help.

Long-term Care Ombudsman Program

Volunteers needed nationwide to make this program work. Its goal is to help assure that long-term care facility residents live harmoniously and with dignity, feeling free to voice complaints or concerns without reprisal. After training, volunteers spend 6-8 hours a month visiting assigned nursing homes. They talk with residents and observe conditions. If there is a complaint, they take it to their district ombudsman for resolution. Interested volunteers can contact the District Long-term Care Ombudsman at 1-800-264-7093.

SAFY (Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth)
