Following the judgement, the The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is expected to go continue with the preparations for conducting the exam as per the already announced schedule for May 2024.According to the revised schedule shared by the ICAI, the CA Intermediate Group 1 exams are now scheduled for May 3, 5, and 9, rather than May 7.Group 2 exams will be held on May 11, 15, and 17, not May 9, 11, and 13. Group 1 of the ICAI CA Final Exam will take place on May 2, 4, and 8, rather than May 6.Group 2 exams have been rescheduled for May 10, 14, and 16, not May 8, 10, and 12. Additionally, the ICAI CA Foundation level exam is scheduled for June 20, 22, 24, and 26.According to media reports, the petitioners emphasised concerns about transport and potential disruptions caused by the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, the bench ruled that no regulation prohibits conducting exams concurrently with elections.As per reports, the bench stated that there was no law prohibiting exams during Lok Sabha elections and asked if there was a legitimate reason for postponing the CA exams. They emphasised that candidates should be able to complete their studies despite the election period. Furthermore, the court expressed surprise at the request for a postponement, given the large number of approximately 4,26,000 candidates scheduled to take the exams.Furthermore, the bench stated that the mere possibility of candidates experiencing difficulties during the exams does not justify disrupting the entire examination process.
