The Morgan County School Board held its second public hearing on the Morgan County Schools 2024-2025 school year calendar at its March 19 meeting and voted to adopt calendar option 1 at the meeting after the hearing.
Assistant Superintendent Jeromy Duelley, who is now overseeing the school calendar responsibility, went over the features of calendar options 1 and 2. He said there had been no further public comments since the school calendar survey.
Most survey participants favored calendar option 1, which had the longer Christmas break and May 30 as the last day of school, Duelley said.
Calendar option 1
Calendar option 1 has a two-week break at Christmas which begins on Monday, December 23 and runs through January 3. Students would return to school on January 6.
The last day of school for the 2024-2025 school year would tentatively be Friday, May 30 in calendar option 1.
Calendar option 1 includes a full Thanksgiving break from Monday, November 25 through Friday, November 29 with students returning on Monday, December 2.
There is also a full week spring break running from Monday, April 14 through Friday, April 18. Student would return on Monday, April 21.
The first day of school for staff will be Monday, August 12. School will begin for students on Tuesday, August 20.
Faculty senate, training
Faculty senate days in the 2024-2025 school year with a two-hour early dismissal for students would be October 4, December 20, February 14 and April 11. August 13 would be the opening of school faculty senate meeting. May 30 would be the closing of school faculty senate meeting.
Professional learning days for staff would be scheduled on August 15 and 16, October 23, January 15 and March 26.
Breaks match other counties
Duelley said that all of the Morgan County Schools breaks mirror both Berkeley County’s and Jefferson County’s school calendars. However, their faculty senate days and professional learning days are slightly different, he noted.
