Somernites Cruise Car Show and Cruise will be in Downtown Somerset — “The Car Cruise Capital of Kentucky”. April will feature an “LS Showcase”, if your vehicle has an “LS” engine you are welcome to a part of this showcase. There will also be a Vintage Tractor Display, Jeep, and 4×4 display. The “Show and Shine” portion of the event lasts from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. “Cruising the Strip” begins at 7 p.m.

Grief Support Group

GriefShare offers help and encouragement after the death of a spouse, child, family member or friend. Takes place every Tuesday from March 5 through June 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET at First Christian Church (1115 Ky. 39, Somerset). Cost is $20. Meetings take place in the community room at the rear of the church. The program is nondenominational and features biblical concepts for healing. Free Tax Assistance at Pulaski County Public Library

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program will once again offer in-person tax assistance and electronic filing on a first come, first served basis to local taxpayers. (AARP Membership NOT required.) The tax assistance will be available at the Pulaski County Public Library on Main Street beginning on Monday, January 29 and continuing on Mondays through April 8, with the exception of February 19. Counselors will assist taxpayers from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. Counselors will also be available on Thursdays, starting February 1 and every Thursday until April 11 starting at 9:40 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. When weather conditions cause the Pulaski County schools or the library to close or delay opening, the tax program will not be available on those days.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Volunteers

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation program, provides counseling for senior citizens and low- to moderate-income persons as they complete their tax forms. The organization is looking for volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Volunteers can serve in a variety of roles. In addition to tax preparation assistance, we need client facilitators, technology specialists, managers and interpreters. Volunteers do not have to be AARP members or have prior tax experience. Long-term Care Ombudsman Program

Volunteers needed nationwide to make this program work. Its goal is to help assure that long-term care facility residents live harmoniously and with dignity, feeling free to voice complaints or concerns without reprisal. After training, volunteers spend 6-8 hours a month visiting assigned nursing homes. They talk with residents and observe conditions. If there is a complaint, they take it to their district ombudsman for resolution. Interested volunteers can contact the District Long-term Care Ombudsman at 1-800-264-7093.

SAFY (Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth)
