This year – 2023 – has been a good one for bank holidays.
May was a particularly glorious month – with the UK treated to not one, not two, but three Mondays off (thanks King Charles).
We’ve just had our August bank holiday, which means summer will soon end and September is now upon us, but also means there’s some time to wait before the next break.
If you’re hoping for an autumn Monday off to kick back and relax, there’s only good news in some parts of the country.
So, when is 2023’s next bank holiday? Here’s all you need to know.
When is the next bank holiday?
For England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the next bank holiday to come falls on Monday, December 25, aka Christmas Day.
However, Scotland has another bank holiday day off on Thursday, November 30 to mark St Andrew’s Day.

Most trains and buses usually run as normal on bank holidays, though some train lines tend to complete essential work over bank holidays meaning there could be disruptions.

However, there is often plenty of notice given if this is the case.

On bank holidays, buses generally run, but services could change or be less frequent – so always check the times in advance before setting off anywhere.
Most bus services run their Sunday service on bank holidays, meaning you can still catch a bus, but they might end earlier or have longer gaps in service.
If you need to travel this bank holiday, most bus services have a timetable you can track online, so you aren’t left waiting for a bus that isn’t going to come.
