AUDITIONS FOR THEATRE BRISTOL’S ‘SCROOGE! THE MUSICAL’ AND ‘A TUNA CHRISTMAS’—Theatre Bristol announces auditions for “Scrooge! The Musical” coming November and December to the Paramount Bristol stage, and for “A Tuna Christmas” coming in December to the ARTspace Stage. Roles are available for adults, teens, and children. It is possible to audition for both productions and be cast in both. Readings and songs will be provided. No conflicts are permitted for tech week or performances, and all rehearsal conflicts need to be reported at auditions. Due to the quantity of performances, some roles may be double cast, or have understudies or standbys. HOMEGROWN TOMATO FEST—The Kingsport Farmers Market is celebrating National Farmers Market Week (August 4-10) by bringing back a popular event — the Homegrown Tomato Fest — now in its 20th year. The free event will take place at the Farmers Market (308 Clinchfield Street) on Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon, and is open to the public. Activities include kids’ tomato decorating tables, live music starting at 9 a.m., a children’s activity by the Kingsport Public Library, Peak Young Professionals will make tomato sandwiches at 10 a.m. (while supplies last), and a tomato contest for biggest, ugliest and best dressed (drop off by 9 a.m. winners announced at 11:30 a.m.). EAT/ART SPACE 2ND ANNUAL YARD pARTy—Johnson City, Tenn. EAT/ART Space, an alternative pop-up gallery operating from a private dining room in Appalachia, is hosting its upcoming event, Yard pARTy, for one day only on Aug. 16 from 6-9 p.m. Artists have been asked to submit new and experimental pieces, demonstrate live, or showcase their favorite works, including live painting, immersive video installation, storytelling, an album release, a date with a book, pottery, jewelry, painting, and more. ACRYLIC POURING—Adventure into the fun and unpredictable world of acrylic pouring with Elena Corradino, a local artist who will teach you everything there is to know about this exciting style of abstract art. Kingsport Cultural Arts is offering a one-day class in acrylic pouring on August 17 in Room 228 of the Kingsport Renaissance Center (1200 E. Center Street). The class runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a 30 minute break for lunch (bring your own or eat local). The cost is $85, and the class is for participants ages 13 and up. No pets, please. All materials you need will be provided. During the four-hour class, you’ll make 10 different paintings of various shapes and sizes. You will also learn five different types of pours, including a double flip cup, and three ways to make “cells.” Participants will discuss color theory and what makes abstract art pop, and Elena will go into detail about the materials and brands she uses when making art.
