Introducing: Your New Moon Calendar For 2024

January 1 isn’t the only time of year for new beginnings. In astrology, they actually occur every 29.5 days, when the sun and moon align to create a new moon, symbolizing a fresh start.

“As the moon waxes around to the full moon and starts to wane, it’s very symbolic of a seed that has been planted,” says Donna Page, a certified astrologer based in Atlanta. New moons are a great time to reset and look at your life and goals, reevaluating anything that needs to change—maybe you even welcome a new ritual.

While the “fresh start” energy is the same, the vibes of each new moon are different depending on its corresponding Zodiac sign. Take the first new moon of 2024, for instance, which will be in Capricorn. Since this sign thrives on making plans, it’s a great time to map out your yearly goals and go after them. But don’t worry, your fav sign will get its turn—since each moon cycle is less than 30 days, there can be up to 13(!) new moons in a year.

And naturally, every year is different, so, this year’s upcoming Capricorn moon won’t have exactly the same significance as the one in 2023, depending on how the planets interact with the new moon. That means, the planets will give you new things to focus on every month this year.

Meet the expert: Donna Page is a certified astrologer based in Atlanta.

“Each month, it’s like the universe is giving us this little time clock that says, here’s your life vision,” Page says. “There’s all different parts of what’s important in life, and each month with a new moon, you can set your vision to polish up that side of life.”

One more thing to be aware of in the 2024 new moon schedule: There will be two solar eclipses (when the moon passes in front of the sun and blocks its light), one during April’s new moon in Aries, and another during October’s new moon in Libra. Page says these can be extra powerful, so you’ll definitely want to take time for your new moon rituals during this extra powerful reset time.

“Capricorn is about being able to look at our future, make plans to have what we want, and to rid ourselves of anything that is getting in the way of what we need,” Page says. During this time, you might be setting strong boundaries to stay true to yourself and to value your time. This year, there’s also a strong essence of focusing on your passions. So, focus on a specific path and consider if you like what you’re doing with your bandwidth. For instance, you might be thinking about your job and whether you like it or want to change it.

The year 2024 has a focus on seeking your own individuality and being your own person—even if it’s not what others might want for you. And since Aquarius values connections, Page says, you might be thinking about where you belong on the planet at this time. “There’s a breaking-free energy with this new moon,” Page says.

Along with that, you might be considering who you want with you on this new path. If you’re feeling overwhelmed at times, the people you surround yourself with might encourage you to look at the issue from a new perspective. “You’re using your intellectual capabilities to figure something out,” Page says. “The mind can be very active, but there’s a very strong pull towards friendships and connecting with people.”

New Moon in Pisces – Sunday, March 10 at 4:00 a.m. EST

Generally, Pisces is about being creative and intuitive. So, perhaps find a music venue and see your favorite artist play or take up a new crafting project, Page says. You can also sharpen up your skills of going with the flow and listening to your intuition. Maybe you get a job offer, and your mind is telling you that it’s paying better than a competing offer, but your gut is saying that you don’t know if you’ll fit in with the staff. During this new moon in Pisces, listen to that intuition.

You might be “feeling as if you automatically know a situation, or people, or a job, or friends to connect with and who not to connect with,” Page says. It also applies to romantic situations, too, so make sure you listen to your gut after any first dates!

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aries – Monday, April 8 at 1:20 p.m. EST

Authenticity is a very important value to Aries, so during this new moon, try to be yourself. Outside of that, the theme of this month is healing. Maybe you’re still getting over that three-month situationship you had a year ago, or one of your coworkers was rude to you last week. During this month, take time for yourself—and use the energy from the solar eclipse—to do the work and evaluate who you are and what’s important to you.

“Every year, Aries has to teach us is that it’s really important to take care of ourselves,” Page says. “It’s that old saying that says, if you’re not taking care of yourself, you can’t take care of anybody else.” That’s why sometimes Aries gets a bad rap for being selfish, but really, they just put on their own oxygen mask before helping others.

New Moon in Taurus – Tuesday, May 7 at 10:22 p.m. EST

Because Taurus is an earth sign, now is an incredible time to seek new possibilities, tap into your creative side, and give gratitude to what you value most. “See the raw materials of the earth and create something,” Page says. So, maybe you work on an artistic project (anyone up for making vision boards?) Also, Taurus craves stability, so during this time, take a moment to think about what grounds you and how you can get back to feeling in alignment.

This new moon will additionally present a good time to look for a big opportunity, particularly at the end of April. The planet Mercury also plays a role in this new moon, which means you should think about how you communicate. Is there any discord in your relationships? If so, now’s a good time to create harmony again.

New Moon in Gemini – Thursday, June 6 at 7:37 a.m. EST

“Every year, Gemini is about valuing diversity and being the jack of all trades and trying new things out,” Page says. That makes it an awesome time to experience something novel, like trying a cooking class, reading a new book, or meeting people. However, this year, the new moon in Gemini is exactly aligned with Venus and the sun—meaning there’s a connection between what and who you love.

That means it’s time to value relationships that are based on a sense of mind connection, like your close friendships or a romantic relationship. Since Gemini values “being able to see the value in more than one thing,” she adds, you should also try to notice and appreciate the different qualities of your relationships.

New Moon in Cancer – Friday, July 5 at 5:57 p.m. EST

When you wish upon a star…it’s because the new moon is in Cancer…or however that song goes. This month, the Cancer new moon is connected with a very bright, fixed star called Sirius. Therefore, you can try to find your light and follow the stars that can light your path, Page says.

ICYDK, Cancer is a water sign, so naturally, it’s v connected with feelings, emotions, and family. So, it’s also time to acknowledge allll of those feelings, including emotions and even memories that no longer serve us, Page says. (Still not over that time you were ghosted by your college bestie? Let that ish go!) “Take care of your emotional body,” she adds. “What makes you really feel comfortable?” It might be nurturing yourself by spending time with family or longtime friends, eating good food, or setting up a picnic in the park and soaking up the sun.

New Moon in Leo – Sunday, August 4 at 6:12 a.m. EST

ICYDK, every sign is connected to a part of the body. For Leo, it’s the heart, so during this new moon, make sure to listen extra closely to it. It’s all about “being open to follow one’s heart, even if it’s taking a risk and you don’t know what will happen,” Page says.

This new moon is also connected to your dreams and creative visions. “It is about being able to sit by the ocean and have a margarita and just watch the sun,” she adds. (Sounds pretty nice, no?) Always wanted to learn to play the guitar? Dance? Do it. And since Leo is considered the child of the Zodiac, there’s plenty of playful energy to support you. Find time to do some yoga and have a glass of wine or two, Page adds.

Additionally, this new moon is a great time to see things from a higher perspective. Practice having compassion and understanding for yourself, and it’ll translate to your other relationships. If you’re not getting along with a coworker, for instance, it’s about stepping beyond the who’s-right-versus-wrong mentality. Instead, “have compassion for the circumstances that they could be in,” Page says.

New Moon in Virgo – Monday, September 2 at 8:55 p.m. EST

Back-to-school vibes, anyone? Like Gemini, Virgo is ruled by Mercury, but since it’s an earth sign, it comes with plenty of practical energy. And with summer (and your Leo party vibes) officially ending, it’s “time to get all your ducks in a row and make things happen,” Page says. Virgos are also a health-oriented sign, so now’s the time to reconfigure your wellness and exercise routine, if you feel like it needs some updating.

A few extra pushes come from this new moon’s connections with other planets, namely Saturn, which values hard work and planning, and Neptune, which, unlike the dreaminess it brought to the Leo new moon, is now connected with action. This month, prioritize creating a calming environment around you to get organized. (Maybe you start yoga or tai chi classes to get in a flow state of mind.)

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra – Wednesday, October 2 at 1:49 p.m. EST

Yup, it’s that time of year again to reevaluate your relationships. Since this new moon is ruled by Venus, Libra is valuing fair, kind, equal partnerships right now, Page says. “It’s a time to assess or reassess whether or not the people in our life who give us that and who doesn’t,” she adds. If you feel you’re lacking relationships with those qualities, seek new ones out—especially because this month is also social time, so you’ll want to put some fun plans on your calendar.

This month, the universe wants you to value friendships and relationships where both parties value communication, want the best for each other, and the connection goes beyond chemistry. There will also be a solar eclipse, so this energy is even more powerful.

New Moon in Scorpio – Friday, November 1 at 7:46 a.m. EST

Page calls Scorpio the “detective” of the Zodiac, meaning they’ll always ask you questions and want to know your secrets. So, this is a time where you can uncover things about yourself that you might have buried. Did you brush off that weird interaction with your barista last month, but it’s still kinda bothering you? Now’s the time to dive into that. In the same vein, it’s also a great month to purge. So, if you know you need to go through your closet, this is your cue to throw out that top you haven’t worn since college.

During this new moon, it’s also time to get things done. “Find something that you can really focus on, find a healthy obsession,” Page says. If you’ve been working on a project for months on end, the universe will deliver the extra motivation you need to push it over the finish line.

New Moon in Sagittarius – Sunday, December 1 at 1:21 a.m. EST

“Sagittarius wants us to grow and to expand, and they have no limits,” Page says. “It is a time of believing in ourselves, and it’s also a time to pay attention to what I call hidden beliefs or unconscious beliefs.” If you find yourself doubting you can get that promotion, instead say, why not? Challenge any negative beliefs you have and instead, empower yourself to reach your goals, Page says.

Because Sagittarius is a naturally exploring sign, this is also a time where you can make plans to travel—maybe you want to hit Costa Rica for the week of Thanksgiving. “It’s about going beyond what we’ve done before and seeing new places and just leaving the mundane behind and experiencing things,” she adds. However, this particular year has strong “yes, but…” energy—meaning, you’ll still want to embrace logical thinking and reality in your decisions (i.e., if you do make plans to travel, make sure you have the money for it!)

New Moon in Capricorn – Monday, December 30 at 5:27 p.m. EST

The new moon in Capricorn strikes again, arriving for the second time in 2024—this time, on December 30. And guess what? It has the same focus as the first one: It’s about your goals and planning, what to bring in and let go of in your life, plus being open to opportunities that arise. It’s “about being able to ring in the new year with tremendous amount of hope or new beginnings and your new path ahead of what you want to create,” Page says. “Believe in yourself, seek out opportunities, and you’ll be able to manifest it.” Umm, yes—that’s the best energy to start off 2025.

There’s also a strong emphasis on the value of friendships and connections with those who accept you as you are, Page adds. This new path will grant (and encourage) you the opportunity to spend time with these people who are supportive of your life vision and goals.

What is a “Black Moon”?

Yes, black moons exist—but it’s not an actual black moon. It’s just when two new moons occur in the same month, which will happen in 2024. There will be a new moon on December 1st in Sagittarius, then another on December 30th. This phenomenon is a bit unusual, but it usually just adds up to mathematics. (Get it?) After all, a new moon occurs every 29.5 days, and a month usually has 30 or 31 days, so there are bound to be two in a month. (BTW, the counterpart of a black moon is a blue moon—again, not actually blue—which occurs when there’s two full moons in a month.)

What is the difference between a Full Moon and a New Moon?

The new moon represents a time where you begin something new, while the full moon is where you can see something, serving more as an illumination time, Page says. Stick with me here: The next new moon, for example, is January 11 in Capricorn. The full moon that occurs is a great time to reflect on the goals and intentions you set during the new moon. Page says it’s like “a seed that’s just trying to sprout, but we can’t really see it until the reflection time.” So, if you have a big project that you’ve started during the new moon, you might not really realize what you need to do to accomplish said project until the full moon rolls around.

Got all that? Great. Grab your planner, candles, and crystals, and let’s get to work!
