The Sweet 16 field will be filled out on Sunday as the first weekend of NCAA Tournament action comes to a close with seasons hanging in the balance. Highlighting the action are a trio of No. 1 seeds and big brands such as Duke and Marquette.
But there will also be a Cinderella element in play as No. 12 seed James Madison takes on the No. 4 seed Blue Devils after shellacking No. 5 seed Wisconsin in first-round action on Friday. After beginning the season with a road win over Michigan State, the Dukes won’t be intimidated by Duke. Colorado is another double-digit seed with a chance to keep dancing as the No. 11 seed Buffaloes look to keep their late-season surge alive in a showdown against No. 2 seed Marquette. After being eliminated in last year’s second round, the Golden Eagles will be motivated to make a deeper run this year.
But there is no bigger Cinderella candidate in action than No. 13 seed Yale. Riding high off an upset over No. 4 seed Auburn, the Bulldogs will look to follow in Princeton’s footsteps from 2023 and reach the Sweet 16 from the Ivy League. To do it, they will have to beat No. 5 seed San Diego State, which has several key players back from a team that reached last year’s national championship game.
