NFL announces dates for trade deadline, league meetings, 2025 offseason

Among those is the trade deadline, which has been taken advantage of by the Miami Dolphins in recent years. While the team’s in-season deal to acquire wide receiver Chase Claypool didn’t yield big results in 2023, the Dolphins made a splash in 2022 with a deadline trade for pass rusher Bradley Chubb, who has 13.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles in a 24 games with Miami.

This year, the trade deadline is set for Nov. 5, a little later than the 2023 deadline which was Oct. 31. Here are other important dates to know for the 2024-25 season:

In previous years, NFL teams were required to slowly reduce their roster size from 90 to 53 with gradual cuts to 75 and 60 before finally deciding the final list of players. Now it’s all at once with a huge slash of players from the roster, which is scheduled to happen on Aug. 27. That’s four days after the Dolphins will wrap up their preseason slate on Aug. 23 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Most official league business gets done in the offseason with the March owners meeting in the spotlight. The mid-regular season meeting includes discussions on how recent rule changes have affected the year so far. Among the topics that will be discussed this October is a recent stadium deal the Jacksonville Jaguars reached with the City of Jacksonville.

Players acquired by the Dolphins at the trade deadline during Chris Grier’s tenure as general manager include Bradley Chubb, Jeff Wilson, and Aqib Talib. With the deadline pushed into November this year, it could be a good time for Miami to make a playoff push by adding talent for the latter half of the regular season.

The season will officially come to a close on the second weekend of February. It will be the 11th Super Bowl held in New Orleans, but the first since 2013.

The pre-draft process will get cranked into gear with the combine, which will again be in Indianapolis. While there has been talk about moving the event elsewhere, an extension in January guaranteed it’ll be at Lucas Oil Stadium for at least another year.

The legal tampering period is set to start on March 10, but free agency will officially kickoff at 4 p.m. ET on March 12. Among the Dolphins players with contracts set to expire next offseason are Tua Tagovailoa (for now), Jevon Holland, and Kader Kohou.
