The Pomona Valley Brass Quintet begins Pomona College’s free and open to the public Friday noon concert series at Balch Auditorium, 1030 Columbia St., Claremont, at 12:15 p.m. Doors open at noon. Poet Karen Greenbaum-Maya, a former Courier reporter, will launch and read from her latest collection of poetry, “The Beautiful Leaves,” from 2 to 5 p.m. during a free and open to the public event at the Claremont Forum, 586 W. First St. The collection, published by Bamboo Dart Press, reflects on her late husband, Walter Maya, who died from lung cancer in 2018 at age 89.
