Free tax filing:

AARP Tax-Aide will provide free Federal and South Carolina income tax preparation and electronic filing. All volunteer counselors will be qualified in the required tax codes and methods and certified by the IRS for all typical tax situations. The Summerville site for Tax-Aide is Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 W. 3rd S. St., room 118, on the East (Main Street/17A) side of the church. Signs will be posted. Appointment times are available from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Preparation ends Monday, April 15. Appointments may be made online by going to tinyurl.com/2p86dr22 or by calling 843-900-1342. Do not call the church. Clients must get a package and fill out an intake form available in room 118 on the above days and times or at the Summerville Senior Center and bring all tax paperwork and forms for 2022 and 2023, a photo ID and Social Security cards for all people on the return. Check-in is 15 minutes before the appointment time.

Festival:

Summerville Parks & Recreation is hosting a Touch-a-Truck Kids’ Festival from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Gahagan Park, 184 W. Boundary St. in Summerville.

NARFE:

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) meets at 1 p.m. Monday, March 18, at the Faith Sellers Senior Center, 312 N. Laurel St. in Summerville. The guest speaker is Katalie Maxwell – Tru Hearing. Invite a friend to attend even if they are not NARFE members. All active and retired federal employees, spouses, surviving spouses and guests are welcome. Happy Hearts:

Singer and ventriloquist Michael Minor is the guest entertainer for Bethany United Methodist Church’s Happy Hearts luncheon meeting at 11 a.m. Friday, March 22. Minor is a professional entertainer who has something for everyone in his shows. A lunch of pulled-pork, hash and rice, baked beans, cornbread, assorted desserts and a drink for $8 will be served at noon. Silent Auction Fundraiser:

Knightsville Methodist Church is the Tea Room and Silent Auction from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, at 1505 Central Ave. in Summerville. Proceeds from the Tea Room and Silent Auction go toward supporting missions both locally and nationally, furthering the church’s commitment to serving communities in need. The Tea Room will offer a friendly atmosphere where guests can relish a variety of lunch options. For those planning to attend with a group of six or more, reservations are encouraged. Fundraiser:

The Summerville Museum and Research Center is having a Nonprofit Fundraiser Yard Sale from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at the museum, 100 E. Doty Ave. in Summerville. All proceeds benefit the museum.

Pickleball fundraiser:

Meals on Wheels of Summerville is hosting the inaugural Dink and Deliver Classic, a pickleball tournament set to take place April 13-14 at The Pickle Bar, 162 Cherry St. in Summerville. Event proceeds directly support the Meals on Wheels of Summerville. Register through Thursday, April 7, at mowsummerville.org/pickleball. Players must register as a team for $60 per individual and $120 for a pair.

Al-Anon:

Sunday Serenity, a support group for friends and families of alcoholics, meets at 7:30 p.m. every Sunday at The Step Up Club, 171 Old Parsonage Road in Summerville. Sewing machine maintenance:

Sewing machine maintenance sessions are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Monday at People, Places & Quilts, 129 W. Richardson Ave. in Summerville, by appointment only. Call 843-871-8872 to reserve a spot. Melanie, a sewing machine repair technician, will be available to answer maintenance and quick repair questions. Bring a sewing machine, cord and foot control. There is no charge for this service.

Open sewing:

Open sewing is 1:15-4:15 p.m. every Thursday at People, Places & Quilts, 129 W. Richardson Ave. in Summerville. The cost is $5 per person. If you are a machine or hand sewist, enjoy a community sewing day on available Thursdays. Call PPQ at 843-871-8872 to register and pay. Class size is limited to eight machines and four hand sewists.

Sewing sessions:

PSF sewing sessions are 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. every Friday at People, Places & Quilts, 129 W. Richardson Ave. in Summerville. The cost is $25 per person for four hours of help, instruction and encouragement. Class size is limited to six people. Call 843-871-8872 to register.

Head injury support group: The Trident Head Injury Support Group

meets from 6:30-8:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month at 701 E. Bay St., Suite 121 in Charleston. Monthly support group meetings are for survivors, caregivers and friends who have acquired the life-changing effects of traumatic brain injury. Quilt ‘n Friends:

Quilt ‘n Friends meets from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. every Wednesday at Stallsville United Methodist Church, 255 Stallsville Loop in Summerville between Trolley Road and Bacon Bridge Road. Stories on the Square:

Stories on the Square is 9:30-10 a.m. every Wednesday at Main Street Reads, 115 S. Main St. in Summerville. It is a free event for children of all ages. Join Ashley Bohinc for outdoor storytime adventures. The event is outside to ensure proper social distancing. Chairs are available for younger listeners, and juice boxes and snacks are provided. Student discounts are available for all attendees. In case of inclement weather, story time moves inside with social distancing. Call 843-875-5171 for more information.

Main Street Writes is 6:30-8 p.m. every Monday at Main Street Reads, 115 S. Main St. in Summerville. Virtual meetings occur every Monday; in-person meetings are the first Monday of each month. The Summerville Tree Protection Board meets at 9 a.m. on the second Monday of every month in the town of Summerville training room, 200 S. Main St. in Summerville.

Standing Committee:

The Summerville Standing Committee meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second Monday of every month in the town of Summerville council chambers on the third floor of the municipal annex building, 200 S. Main St. in Summerville.

Board of Zoning Appeals:

The town of Summerville Board of Zoning Appeals meets at 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month in the training room on the second floor of the municipal annex, 200 S. Main St., Summerville.

Design Review Board:

The Summerville Design Review Board meets at 4 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month in the training room on the second floor of the municipal annex building, 200 S. Main St. in Summerville.

Fleet Reserve Association:

The Fleet Reserve Association meets at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at 99 Wisteria Road in Goose Creek. The U.S. Navy, Marines and Coast Guard conducts the Branch 269 monthly meeting. The Summerville Town Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in the council chambers on the third floor of the municipal annex building, 200 S. Main St. in Summerville.

Dorchester Democrats:

Food Truck Friday:

The Carnes Crossroads Property Owners Association hosts Food Truck Friday from 5-8 p.m. every Friday at Green Barn in Carnes Crossroads, 207 First Ave. in Summerville. Different food trucks will be present each week.

The Azalea Society:

The Azalea Society meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at Magnolia Plantation. There is a potluck dinner with a meeting and plant discussion at 7 p.m. Newcomers are welcome. Call 843-442-7774 for more information.

Parkinson’s Support Group:

The Summerville Parkinson’s Disease Support Group meets at 2:30 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month at Wildcat Senior Living, 2101 Cane Bay Boulevard in Summerville. This group will begin meeting on the fourth Sunday of each month in 2024.

Southern Harmony Chorus:
